I believe that every person who sits down for counseling with me deserves therapy that is as special and unique as they are. I know how important it is for you to feel like you are being heard and understood. There are no guarantees with therapy, but it should help you learn new things about yourself and others. I will give you the skills to feel better and handle emotions and problems so you can get on to leading a happier life.
Working with adolescents, couples, families, and individuals through issues including depression, anxiety, addiction, self-esteem, and relationships.
As a dually Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor I am able to offer my clients the very best care. One of my first professional counseling opportunities was working for the non-profit organization EMQ Families First as a family specialist. There I would support families with adolescents suffering from mental health issues in their own homes. I also worked with the EMQ Mobile Crisis team doing county-wide suicide assessments for children and adolescents in crisis. For my final internship, I obtained the position of Special Education Therapist at a local middle school, where I supported adolescents through one-on-one and group therapy. In 2007 I opened my own private practice in addition to the school counseling.
I specialize in working with adolescents, couples, families, and individuals through issues including depression, anxiety, addiction, self-esteem, and relationships. I have been trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, social cognition, bully prevention, and Positive Parenting. Currently, I am the Supervisor of Behavioral and Mental Health for a local school district where I support Marriage Family Therapist Interns (MFTi’s), Associate Social Workers (ASW), and Professional Clinical Counselors Interns (PCCI) in counseling general education students. Additionally, I help the administration and teachers understand the mental health needs of their school population. I am also passionate about my work here at Nugent Family Counseling Center as the director and lead therapist.
The title of Dr. Nugent is one I hold with pride and great responsibility. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree at Brigham Young University majoring in Psychology. I then went on to get a Master’s Degree from John F. Kennedy University majoring in Counseling Psychology and graduated in the top 5% of my class. I completed my Ph.D. program with a 4.0 GPA through Walden University focusing my dissertation on adolescents and video games. I also received the honor of being in the Psi Chi International Honor Society and the Golden Key Society for outstanding scholastic achievement and excellence.
