What is a psychoeducational evaluation?

In addition to the diagnosis of psychological disorders related to academic learning processes and the identification of special needs, psychoeducational evaluations can provide valuable information about the way a person thinks, learns and copes, as well as a way of better understanding an individual’s intellectual, behavioral and social-emotional development.

A full psychoeducational evaluation involves the administration of diagnostic tests related to academic learning processes including tests of academic ability, intellectual ability, achievement, motivation, and personality factors. Information is also gathered by a review of documents including, but not limited to, previous evaluations or testing, any available school records, the New Client Questionnaire, and behavior assessment rating forms. The face-to face evaluation typically takes two, three-hour sessions. Following the evaluation, a comprehensive written report is prepared that provides interpretation and analysis of all information gathered as well as recommendations such as treatment programs and/or strategies to address problems of adjustment, issues of social development, and behavioral and academic difficulties. The written report is shared and reviewed with parents at a one hour follow-up meeting.

What standardized tests are administered?
The standardized tests administered for each evaluation are selected by the assessor case-by-case based on a number of factors including the child’s age, referral concerns, purpose of the evaluation, and past testing history. How much will a psychoeducational evaluation cost?
The charges for psychoeducational testing include review of background data, test administration, test scoring/interpretation, report writing time, and the follow-up meeting with parents or guardians to review test results. The cost for these services is listed below.

Comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation (including assessment of intellectual functioning, academic strengths and weaknesses, attention/executive functioning, behavioral adjustment, and social-emotional functioning) with report and follow-up meeting with parents: $3,700.00

Intellectual & achievement evaluation (including assessment of only intellectual functioning, academic strengths and weaknesses, attention/executive functioning) with report and follow-up meeting with parents: $3,000.00

Intellectual testing only (scores and testing observations only): $800.00
Achievement testing only (scores and testing observations only): $800.00

Day of Testing Considerations

  • Medications should be taken as prescribed
  • If prescribed, glasses/contact lenses and/or hearing aides should be worn during all testing sessions
  • A good night’s sleep prior to testing sessions is recommended
  • Children should eat before testing session. Short breaks can be allowed if child chooses to bring drinks and/or snacks.
