I earned my first degree in Biomedical Engineering and have worked since 2001 in Silicon Valley Medical Device start-ups as an R&D Engineer and Project Manager. I integrate a deep love for science and research into my holistic approach to personal growth and development. Design Thinking has guided my technical work, and I bring this approach to our therapeutic work together. We start with the best possible understanding of a problem / your goal, prototype and test a solution tailored to your specific needs, revise our understanding through evaluation of the results, and keep innovating until we find what works for you. The skills and techniques I have to share with you are varied and tailored to your interests and goals, drawing heavily on a body of research that supports Cognitive Behavioral and Mindfulness Based Therapies.
My first exposure to personal wellness was as a student of yoga and mindfulness, which did wonders to calm my busy, problem-solving mind and brought balance to my life while working in a high-stress, high-pressure environment. In 2007, I became a Registered Yoga Teacher, and seeking to add greater scientific rigor to my workshop and class offerings, I completed a series of Stanford Professional Development courses in Mindfulness, Willpower, and Compassion. In 2011, I began formalized training in Holistic Counseling Psychology with John F. Kennedy University’s masters level graduate program. My masters’ research focused on harnessing the unique challenges of the transition to parenthood for personal growth and development. I began running several formats of parenting groups, combining self care, specific parenting skills, mindfulness, and community building. I’ve run groups that incorporate yoga and movement along with expressive arts; experiential learning groups for parents on school campuses; and groups within corporate settings.
After graduating, I trained with the Mountain View Feeling Good Institute, the west-coast training institute for T.E.A.M.-CBT. I am certified as a Level 3 practitioner and am pursuing Level 4 (Trainer Status) in 2019. The model of T.E.A.M-CBT was developed by Dr. David Burns M.D. the author of Feeling Good, When Panic Attacks, and Feeling Good Together. T.E.A.M-CBT focuses on your current experience, learning specific skills, and creating opportunities to practice new skills related to your goals. It is effective for: Anxiety (Panic, Fears, Phobias, Worrying, Obsessions), Depression, Low Self-Esteem, Relationship Concerns, Stress, Shyness, Dating Concerns, Body Image, Exploration of Identity Statuses.
Currently I am completing a teaching practicum through Mindful Schools, the final step in certification following a year-long training and three years of work with students on several Bay Area campuses.
